A Look Back At January - Favourites

I think I can say with some confidence that we are all very relieved that January is over. Let's be honest: it was miserable, depressing, no one had any money, and it was overall: shit. (Excuse the swearing). So I thought I'd share the (few) happy bits of January and the bits and bobs I discovered in the month of misery.

Music:

I have been so into a band called Le Youth in January. Not my normal style at all - but it gets played in the store I work at and when you hear the songs over and over some begin to make an impact! My favourites are Cool (the video I've linked) and Dance With Me. Worth a listen!

Book:

Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn

I was a bit unsure about this book when I finished it as I was a little disappointed at the ending. It's essentially about a couple who are perfectly normal - when one day the woman disappears. No one can find her and all of a sudden supposed stories come out about her husband threatening her, her being terrified of him, lie after lie. You follow her husband trying to find where she is and what on earth is going on. I loved this aspect of the book, it was brilliant and written so well - however the ending was a bit of a let down like I say. I have to recommend it though as it kept me gripped for an entire train journey home and I finished it in one sitting!

TV:

Erm, so I may be a bit late to this but can we talk about Sherlock?! Me and Damien finally watched the first episode the other night and we are hooked. We don't have too much money at the minute to spend on going out so I can see a good long while being spent watching Sherlock.

How was your January? Hope it wasn't too bad - looking back at little bits like this has actually made me feel a lot better about the month. Bring on February!

Spring 2014 - Pastel Madness

Erm, so I may have gone a bit overboard with the pastel trend. But working in retail means I'm seeing all the amazing colours coming in, and getting to style them on mannequins in everything I want to dress in myself.

Although pastel isn't really a new trend for Spring, the different thing for this year is clashing them. Don't just pick one, pick a few! I particularly love this mint with lilac combination, and the lemon socks would be so cute poking out of the top of these boots - keep the boots a bit sturdier to toughen up the look. I've also included this cute jewelled collar top (in the sale!) to put on under the dress - just a sweet little touch that adds extra depth to the outfit.

What do you think to the pastel trend? For someone who normally wears black with an extra helping of black, I'm getting suckered in.. big time!

My Nail Polish Collection

If you asked me what my makeup must haves would be, nail polish doesn't come anywhere near the top 5. Or 10. It comes bottom of the list - my nails aren't that nice so I don't paint them as I feel it only highlights them! I prefer fake nails if I want them to look nice - however, I've still somehow managed to build quite a little collection. If you fancy a nosy, read on!

Blogger Addiction: Candles!

If you've been reading beauty blogs for a while now, then you'll know almost every one is obsessed with candles. Diptyque, Yankee Candles, Jo Malone.. all lovely and sadly all very expensive. I myself do have quite the addiction to candles as well but not quite the money to match it - enter Ikea's Tindra.

I know that some people think high end lipsticks are a rip off, but I just don't have the heart to agree. I mean, look at this lipstick. Look at it. It's beautiful. And that's just the packaging - you haven't even seen the colour yet.

January Blues

So, I don't think I'm the only one feeling the full blown, depressing effects of January - am I right? Everything is miserable, everyone is poor, and after having Christmas everything just seems to have lost it's sparkle. If like me, you find it really hard to motivate yourself then I've tried to think of a few tips to help us all out - which I'm taking myself and already seems to be helping a bit.

Face of the day feat. Chanel

One of the lovely gifts I got for my birthday was the Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Matte lipstick (and breathe!) in La Sensuelle. It was a shade I had asked for after swatching it in Selfridges and falling head over heels in love. And as one of my New Year's resolutions is to start posting more actual pictures of my face - I thought I'd use this in a face of the day.
