E.L.F Studio Matte Lip Colour Review

Today I'm on my way to Oxford on the train to get away for a few days, but I still wanted to make sure I could update here so I thought I'd take some pictures before I left, pay the £2 on the train to get wifi and write my blog post here. :) Now, I'm not a huge fan of E.L.F products - they're so hit and miss, I never want to order even when I see something that looks really good. But when I saw these matte lipsticks featured on a few of my favourite blogs, I thought that I should get over my fear and buy them!

E.L.F Matte Lip Colour in Natural (top), Coral (bottom).

These are the E.L.F Studio Matte Lip Colours. Available in six shades, I bought the three that seem the most popular (I know I've only shown two shades here which I'll explain in a moment!) on everyone else's blogs. I bought the shades Coral, Tea Rose and Natural. I bought them at £2.50 each whilst they were on sale. They're in a twist up stick format - which I'm in two minds about - and are quite plainly packaged, which I love. There's nothing worse than a cheap make up brand who have cheap looking packaging - these are matte black with the end showing the shade, and just the product name down the side.

I held off reviewing these for a few days because I wanted to wear them a few times and see what they were really like day to day. Both of these colours are lovely, very natural looking whilst still looking like you've put colour on your lips (does that make sense?). Coral has quickly become my favourite, it's the perfect pinky/peachy/corally colour that I am always drawn to. Natural is one of those 'my lips but better' shades - it's nothing spectacular but lovely to just stick on for a normal day. Are you wondering about the third shade I had? Well, I bought Tea Rose as I said above. When swatched on your hand, it's a really lovely colour... I then put it on my lips and it just looks weird. I don't know why, it just translates completely differently onto my lips! Therefore I didn't really want to include it as to me it's nothing compared to these two shades.

Coral (left), Natural (right). Taken in natural daylight.

My only problem with them is that you have to prime your lips quite well before wearing them. With them being matte they can become a little bit dry, and you can get those horrible little bits of dead skin showing up everywhere on your lips! So I do suggest making sure your lips are smooth and primed before putting these on. The staying power isn't phenomenal either - around 3-4 hours - but this doesn't bother me too much as I normally take whatever lipstick I am wearing with me out for the day anyway for touch ups.

Other than that, for £3.75, these are absolutely lovely. Part of me is tempted to buy the other 3 shades but I can't tell if that's just me being swayed by the cheap price or because I like them enough to want another 3!

You can buy them here off the official E.L.F website. Keep an eye out on the website because I get emails almost every other day from them with different discount offers so I'm sure you could get them even cheaper! If you have them, let me know what you think, especially if you have any of the other shades!

  2. I've never tried these, but I have tried the NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil (which looks like it could be some what similar to this) and I find it to be soooo pretty but SOOOO drying, especially for the heavy price tag. I really like the looks of these and for so little you can't really go too wrong! Great post!

    1. Aww haha! That's partly why I said their biggest downfall is that you really need to prep your lips before using them - which I'm not a huge fan of doing! I like to just whack something on and then leave the house! x
