My tiny tattoo experience!

So, I wasn't planning to upload another blog post for a few days, but yesterday on a whim I finally got the tattoo I've been after for years. So I thought I'd share my short yet sweet experience with getting it!

Sorry for the terrible angle - have you ever tried to take a photo of your own ankle?!

So, if you're a big Harry Potter fan, you'll already know what this means! Yes, it is the Deathly Hallows symbol. Before anyone wants to tell me off for getting a tattoo in reference to a book, I've loved HP since I started reading it at 11 years old, and the instant I read about the Deathly Hallows I knew I wanted it somewhere on my body! I have quite a few piercings as it is, and my boyfriend has quite a few tattoos, so I'm also no stranger to body modification and thought about it a lot.

Now that we've got that cleared up! I was nearby to my favourite tattoo studio in Derby (Octopus Tattoo, they're amazing, go look them up!) and noticed on my facebook feed that they had a few walk in appointments available. Immediately my boyfriend started saying that today should be the day I get it done (he's had to put up with me moaning about wanting it for over 3 years now). So we walked in, the artist Mat Bone was available, he sized it up, filled out some forms, and was ready to go. I don't think I've ever been as terrified to do something in my life! I was so nervous that my foot was going to jolt randomly and I'd ruin everything. :(

Thankfully that wasn't the case. Funnily though I did have to stand on the bed thingy so that he could put the stencil on whilst I was flat footed and it was very awkward having a conversation with a man who could pretty much see up my skirt. Yep! But Mat was excellent, he knew this was my first tattoo and made me feel really comfortable and told me everything he was doing. It took around 20 minutes overall - barely anything really - and the pain was definitely not at bad as I expected. It's like someone is scratching you repeatedly in a very specific place! The only part that actually hurt was the lines that came very close to my ankle bone - you can guess why.

It really is everything I wanted it to be - the lines are perfectly straight, not overly thick or thin, and thankfully it doesn't itch at the minute which everyone says it will do! :) I am over the moon with it - it's nice having a tattoo which only select people (Potterheads!) will understand.

Do you have any tattoos/want any tattoos? Now that I've had my first I can definitely see where the hunger for more comes from!

  1. Waw so jealous that you had the guts to do that! I have been wanting a tattoo for so long but I'm just too scared :D Yours looks great! Eventhough I still don't really get what it means (I don't know that much about hp). But I like the fact that it's special for you :)

    1. Thanks so much! I'm really happy with it. The Deathly Hallows is from the Tale of the Three Brothers, where three brothers meet death and conquered him, so death made them each an object: one had an invisibility cloak (the triangle), one had the most powerful wand known the man (the stick) and the other a resurrection stone (the circle). So the three objects together make up the Deathly Hallows as they are the most powerful objects created by death. Hope that kind of explains things haha! Sorry if I rambled. :P xxx

  2. That is a gorgeous tattoo! When I turn eighteen I really want to get one.. something Harry Potter related also - perhaps not a deathly hallows, but perhaps the words 'always'? :P PS, I have followed your blog and I would appreciate it if you could have a look at my blog too, I've just started out!

    1. An 'Always' one was quite close for me too but I liked the idea of only other people who loved HP really getting the symbol - and it was something small enough for me to deal with haha! Thankyou so much, I'm off to check out your blog now! xxx
